$5–it will buy you a latte and leave a little extra for a tip or a tube of toothpaste or 2 packs of Orbit gum, or about 10 minutes of metered parking in San Francisco. Most of us don’t think twice about dropping $5 for some insignificant item or another.
But $5 in India goes a long way. It will buy you one night in a decent guesthouse, dinner for two, a rickshaw driver for about two hours.
$5 will also feed one dog and one cat rescued by Mysore’s People For Animals for one month.
I know there are hundreds of charities vying for your donations. Please consider a $5 donation to Mysore’s People For Animals.
When PBS launches a fundraising campaign, it always offers incentives. $100 will get you a magazine subscription or a tote bag or a calendar. Well, I’m going to see PBS’s incentives and raise them: For a $100 donation to Mysore’s PFA, I’ll gladly bring you back a puppy or kitten when I return to the U.S. in December! Or a pony!
